EMPOWER STUDENTS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Called to Empower Students for Compassionate Care
The HCF National Student Ministry has representatives in 6 provinces, namely, Eastern Cape, Kwazulu-Natal, Free-State, Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga and currently still active in Eastern Cape. HCF Student ministry has encountered challenges in the 4 previous active provinces i.e. Kwazulu-Natal, Free State, Gauteng and Limpopo for the past 3 years. However, for the past year, Student Ministry has managed to make contact with Mpumalanga through the Provincial Action Team and has establish a relationship with an SRC representative who has managed to attend 2 HCFSA activities, including the National Student Ministry held in Kwazulu-Natal on the 10th-12th March 2023 at African Enterprise Pietermaritzburg.
Mpumalanga has now come on board and is establishing Student Ministry activities by visiting Colleges to share the HCF Vision and even host Prayer Days for student during main college calendrers.
NATIONAL STUDENT MINISTRY CONFERENCE
HCFSA National Student Ministry managed to hold their annual conference at Kwazulu Natal in Pietermaritzburg from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th March 2023. We had an attendance of 69 delegates from 6 provinces, 52 delegates managed to sleep over and 17 day visitors. Amongst the total number, we had about 70% of students, 20% young adults and 10% silver-liners.
KWAZULU- NATAL PROVINCE
KwaZulu Natal has 10 Nursing Colleges or Campuses. All campuses have been exposed to HCF Vision. They currently have 4 active Campuses with HCF activities i.e.
Benedictine campus, Harry Gwala campus, Port Shepstone campus and R. K Khan Campus.
ACTIVITIES
RK KHAN meets every Wednesday evening @ 18h00-19h30 They celebrated Women’s Day and had an Exam Prayer Service God has blessed KZN with Medical Interns from nearby hospitals who attends the fellowship and also invites other Intern doctors to HCF activities HCF KZN has an Action Team with a Chairperson and leaders in the following portfolio: Prayer, Evangelism, Discipleship, Media, and Secretary. Action Team on targets has not yet been conducted but the Action Team have managed to carry out any responsibilities delegated/given to them. On the whole, all 10 Campuses meet regularly on their own for Prayer. They will be having their Provincial Student Seminar on the 21st October 2023 at RK KHAN Campus
MPUMALANGA PROVINCE
Mpumalanga has two nursing colleges namely: Mpumalanga College of Nursing KaBokweni Campus and Rob Ferrara Campus.
ACTIVITIES
They manage to meet every Thursday @ 18h00 for Prayer session when they are in contact blocks at Robs Ferreira Campus. They managed to hold two Exam Prayers on the 03rd September and 08th October Mpumalanga continues with weekly IDM meetings.
EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE
Eastern Cape has Lilitha College of Nursing, Mthatha campus, Lusikisiki Campus, Queenstown campus, East London Campus and Port Elizabeth Campus. There are also satellite campuses under these campuses.
Almost all of these campuses have active HCF members who are either Lecturers or staff members, who are being used by God to assist or orientate and organize students to conduct their services. The fact that the Department of Health is changing from a Four-Year Diploma to a Three-Year has led to the Non-functioning of Satellites campuses and the number of students per campus has reduced. Student’s Compounds are not utilized, so that makes students not to be easily accessible even by those who are willing to coach them.
ACTIVITIES
Welcome services are done every time there is a new group in campuses.
Daily Prayers continues every morning before classes resume.
General weekly services also continues when students are on block/college.
IDM-Due to minimal time students spend together since there are no Nurses in other campuses, only three campuses conduct IDM.
Exam prayers are organized when EXAMS are approaching.
EASTER SERVICES-are organized in collaboration with HCF members from the province and the entire hospital (s)
They also do farewell services for those that leave at the end of the season.
On the 18-20th August, they had a Student Ministry Provincial conference which was a great success.
GAUTENG PROVINCE
GAUTENG has three Colleges and one Sub-Campus namely: SG-Lourens Nursing College, Chris Hani Baragwanath Nursing College and Ann-Lastky Nursing College and Bonalesedi Nursing College (as a Sub-Campus for CHBNC). HCF is known in all the colleges and had fellowships previously.
ACTIVITIES
The first meeting was held on the 13th September 2023 at SG Lourens Nursing College after a long engagement with management and awaiting their responses.
Services are held on Wednesdays.
LIMPOPO PROVINCE
Limpopo has 5 Nursing Colleges or Campuses namely: Sovenga, Giyani, Thohoyandou, Waterberg and Sekhukhune Campuses and two Universities namely:
University of Limpopo and University of Venda.
ACTIVITIES
Limpopo holds Weekly prayer meeting on WhatsApp.
They managed to visit 1 (ONE) College to share the HCF Vision
They attended the Inter-Campus event at Sovenga Nursing College
Inspire and Equip healthcare workers to manifest Jesus Christ in their daily life and work.
